As odd as this might seem, many of us have never considered the reason we want the things we want. Think about the desires that you have. You may long for a great date, a great relationship, a child, a great job, a cool car, great sex, a great home, a vacation…the list is endless. So, what is it you hope or believe these things will provide?
The Reason You Want Anything You Want
Let me propose that the reason you want ANYTHING is that you believe in having that thing you will feel happier than you did without it.
You want to feel good and you believe that having the person or thing will make you feel good – or at least better than you felt without it (compliments of Abraham-Hicks, a favorite mentor of mine). Duh! It may seem obvious, but have you ever really thought about it?
The next point that Abraham-Hicks makes is this: If the reason we want anything is so that we can feel good, we can simply learn how to feel good.
Cut out the middle man so to speak. Remember the basics of economics. If you cut out the middle man, you profit more.
It is like that with the things we want. If we are dependent upon someone or something else for our happiness we are in a precarious position. If that person or thing doesn’t come through then we don’t feel so good.
And let’s face it, now and then someone or something we want does NOT come through – damn critters!
So, then, the quest becomes one of learning to help ourselves feel good. We are right back to a theme you will hear me speak of time and again: Happiness and love are generated from the inside out.
Feeling Good is an Inside Job
Stay tuned and we will explore this further and give some tools for learning how to generate love and happiness within ourselves. In the meantime, simply recognizing the reason why we want what we want – along with knowing that we can learn to feel good on our own – is a good step forward.
My Fall In Love With Your Body Now and Best Relationships Ever (coming soon) programs provide great tools for generating happiness from the inside out. I will also be sharing a lot of valuable insights on this blog site, so come back and visit often.
Have fun today and be a little more kind and loving toward yourself!
